20th Annual Black History Scholarship Essay Contest

It’s time for Black Crow Media’s 20th annual “Black History Scholarship Essay Contest,” now accepting entries through February 28, 2026.

We study the past to better the future. With that in mind, Black Crow Media and our community partners (see list below) want to invest in that future, so we’ve teamed up for this year’s Black History Scholarship Essay Contest.

AGAIN THIS YEAR: Video Submissions will be accepted, in addition to the choice of traditional written submissions. Please see the rules and guidelines for whichever you decide to choose.

Entry for the contest will be open through 12 am on February 28, 2026. Judging will then be performed by a 3rd party and finalists will be notified by March 10, 2026. Winner placement will be announced at a winners reception on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Big Nick’s Juke Joint on Baytree Road..

ESSAY TOPIC:

“As you enter adulthood, consider how past generations shaped the opportunities you have today. How have Black Americans created those opportunities for you, and how do you want to expand them for those that follow you?”

Entering is as easy as 1, 2, 3…

1. Download the “Guidelines & Rules” using the button below and read them.
2. Write your essay or create your video
3. Submit your information and essay or video using the “Entry Form” button below. the video should be uploaded to Youtube prior to completing form. (Or, you can turn in a paper copy at the offices of Black Crow Media at 361 Northside Drive, Valdosta, Ga 31602 no later than 3 pm, February 27, 2026. Sorry, but video entries are only accepted online.)

**Please do not include your name or image on the essay or in the video itself. If you are turning in a paper copy, you will fill out an entry form at Black Crow Media.**
